2nd Higher Education Leadership Meet - HELM 2019


This page provides a summary of the Higher Education Leadership Meet, hosted by The Centre for Leadership Development (CLD) of Venus International Foundation (VIF) on 5th January 2019.

The CLD of VIF organized a full day Higher Education Leadership Meet on 5th January 2019. It is a 2nd Meet and was attended by 40 participants (represented 5 Country: from Oman, Jordan, UAE, Malaysia and India) those are employed in a higher education sector at the capacity of Department Chair/Division Head, Vice Principal, Principal, Dean and Director

Objectives: The Meet is aiming to discuss

Proven tools and techniques for running a successful institution, department, or division

Approaches to institutional and program assessment, including working with accreditors, understanding compliance trends, and executing a strategic plan

Best practices for hiring and developing faculty, including ways to design a fruitful faculty development program, foster a collegial department, and conduct effective hiring searches

Key facets of managing legal and regulatory issues

Strategies for handling some of the most pressing matters in academic leadership, such as recruitment and retention, effective budgeting, compliance, and fundraising and development



The Leadership Meet provided an opportunity for participants to share knowledge and explores the Groundbreaking strategies, Influential Trends, and best practices that define effective leadership at the College and University levels today. In many ways the meet is unique: the traditions of being by invitation only, have always been intended to promote intense and positive discussion between the experts in the field. The intent of the meet is not archival publication, but rather to provide a forum to build community and to stimulate discussion, new insight and experimentation.

Professor Hassan Said Kashoob, Dhofar University, Oman delivered the presidential address.

Professor Hany Dowidar, Abu Dhabi University, United Arab Emirates, delivered special address.

Prof. (Dr.) Debadatta Panigrahi, RAK Medical and Health Sciences University, UAE delivered special address.

Leveraging The Power of Youth in Higher Education Leadership


Higher Education Leadership Awards (HELA) scheme was instituted in the year 2017 by the Centre for Leadership Development (CLD) of Venus International Foundation (VIF). It is presented yearly during the Higher Education Leadership Meet (HELM) that is conducted during January month of the year. The scheme has a Criteria, Standards, Regulations, Nomination Application, Expert Committee and Judging Process etc that are governed by the Board of Trust.

The HELA 2019 is convened by the CLD of VIF & conducted in accordance with the VIF BOARD MEETING resolution vide F. No. VIF/MIN/BM-II/2019 held on April 9, 2018 at VIF Head Quarters. The HELA 2019 invites nominations vide F. No. VIF/CFN/LA/2019 opened on July 25, 2018 from eligible individuals those are working in the Academic Institutions.

The nominees are selected based on the Expert Committee report and Apex Committee recommendations.
